Educators
10k Science helps educators make difficult science concepts visible, interactive, and assessable. The platform gives students a way to explore real scientific data through immersive 3D experiences on the web and in VR, while giving teachers insight into student understanding through guided prompts, spoken responses, and formative assessment.
10k Science is especially useful for science topics that are hard to teach with text, diagrams, or video alone: microscopic structures, molecular processes, abstract systems, scientific reasoning, and connections across scales.
Classroom Value
Educators can use 10k Science to:
- Bring real scientific data into classroom learning experiences
- Help students visualize abstract, microscopic, and molecular science concepts
- Support inquiry-driven exploration rather than passive viewing
- Prompt students to explain what they notice, infer, and understand
- Capture spoken student responses during exploration
- Use AI-scored understanding as formative assessment
- Identify where individual students may need additional support
- Connect immersive experiences to NGSS-aligned learning goals
The 10k Science Educators page describes the platform for classroom use, and the 10k Science Web Viewer lets students explore interactive science experiences in a browser. Educators can also start a free trial account for the web platform, including the web viewer and Educator Dashboard.
Educator Challenges
Dynamoid’s 2023 educator survey gathered feedback from more than 60 science educators, primarily biology teachers, across different grade levels and higher education institutions. The full Science Educator Challenges Survey Results report identified several recurring classroom challenges:
- Limited teacher time
- Student engagement and distraction
- Funding constraints
- Providing individual feedback
- Encouraging intrinsic student motivation
- Teaching abstract or non-visible concepts
- Helping students connect ideas across scales and systems
The report found that 74% of surveyed educators identified budget constraints as a major barrier to VR classroom adoption. 10k Science addresses this constraint by supporting both web access and VR, so immersive science learning can be introduced without requiring every student to use a headset at the same time.
NGSS-Aligned Learning
10k Science content is developed to align with the Next Generation Science Standards in partnership with the Lawrence Hall of Science.
NGSS learning is three-dimensional: students build understanding through science and engineering practices, disciplinary core ideas, and crosscutting concepts. 10k Science supports this approach by giving students phenomena to investigate, models to explore, and prompts that ask them to observe, explain, and connect ideas.
Crosscutting Concepts
The NGSS Crosscutting Concepts help students make connections across life science, physical science, Earth and space science, and engineering. 10k Science is well suited to these concepts because students can move through scientific systems, inspect structures, and connect events across scales.
Patterns
Students can observe recurring shapes, behaviors, and relationships in cells, molecules, organisms, and environments. In 3D, patterns become something students can inspect from multiple angles rather than only recognize in a diagram.
Cause And Effect
Interactive experiences help students trace mechanisms: how a molecular interaction affects a cell, how a genetic change affects a body system, how a pollutant affects health, or how an intervention changes an outcome.
Scale, Proportion, And Quantity
10k Science is especially strong for scale. Students can move between molecular, cellular, organismal, environmental, and human-scale views, helping them understand why size, quantity, distance, and time scale matter in science.
Systems And System Models
Many 10k Science experiences are organized around systems: body systems, ecosystems, molecular systems, disease systems, and engineered or research systems. Students can examine parts of a system, how those parts interact, and how changes in one part can affect the whole.
Energy And Matter
Immersive environments can help students follow flows, transformations, and interactions involving matter and energy, especially when those processes are too small, fast, or abstract to observe directly.
Structure And Function
Students can connect the shape and arrangement of structures to what they do, from molecules and proteins to cells, tissues, and anatomy. This is particularly useful for biology, molecular biology, physiology, and health science topics.
Stability And Change
10k Science experiences can help students compare states, observe disruption, and reason about change over time, such as disease progression, environmental change, treatment effects, or system recovery.
Formative Assessment
10k Science is positioned as a formative assessment tool. AI Guides can prompt students during an experience, students can respond verbally, and AI-scored understanding can help teachers see where students are making sense of the science and where they need more support.
The Viewer, Guides, Dashboard, and Formative Assessment page explains these product features in more detail.
The AI-Guided Formative Assessment For Science page describes how AI Guides act as instructional agents inside immersive 3D science experiences.
Classroom Implementation
Because 10k Science works on the web and in VR, educators can use it in several classroom formats:
- Individual exploration on laptops or desktops
- Small-group investigation and discussion
- VR station rotations
- Whole-class preview and debrief
- Pre-lab or post-lab conceptual exploration
- Formative assessment before, during, or after a science unit
